Barcodes ending?

With the emergence of 2D codes in the landscape of advertising, can we predict the barcodes ending ?

Standardization of barcodes remains its greatest asset : EAN or European Article Number is a standard ensuring the barcode of an item will be recongnized by all countries of the European Union. EAN also ensures a compatibility with the U.P.C. codes used in North America. Manufacturers will continue to use these codes to allow identification of products by the consumers or by the cashiers. However, Toshiba has recently developed a system with a camera which allows, at a very high rate, packaged products recognition and identification, such as fresh fruits or vegetables. Image recognition directly competes the 2D codes in recent mobiles app. Some of them use enhanced technologies, such as steganography which allows information hiding in products pictures... Revolution is on the way in the identification world!
